From David Titley: This morning, the National Academies released their two-volume report on Climate Intervention (also known as Geoengineering). Our committee examined methods of reducing the concentration of Greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere (Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR)) and reducing the amount of incoming sunlight (Albedo Modification (AM)). We found that CDR, while generally low and manageable risk, has very significant cost, timeliness and scaling issues; conversely the AM techniques, although fast-acting and relatively affordable, contained high and poorly-understood scientific, technical and social risks.
